Depression

Studies estimate that 1 in 5 adults experiences some form of depressive disorder at some point in their lives. These include major depression, postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, dysthymia or seasonal affective disorder.

Do you have depression?

Depression is different than a sad mood because it lasts for 2 or more weeks and it just doesn't feel like you can "get over it." It may be difficult to find joy in activities that you once enjoyed, and you may notice changes in sleeping, eating, weight gain or loss, you desire to socialize, and motivation to complete everyday tasks that you once completed without noticing.

If this sounds like what you are experiencing, then you may have depression and you do not have to continue suffering alone. Treatment is available and depression responds well to therapy.

Anxiety

How do you know if it's worry or anxiety? It is normal to worry about things that may be important to you - a test, a friend or family member, the future. It becomes anxiety when it does not go away or it gets worse over time. It may get in the way of being able to complete or concentrate on everyday tasks.

Sometimes you can have a physical response to anxiety: muscle tension, stomach ache, numbness or tingling, difficulty breathing or headache.

Other symptoms can include racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating or focusing, avoiding the anxiety provoking situation, irritability or sleep problems.

Anxiety is treatable with therapy and responds well to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Meagan utilizes CBT when treating anxiety disorders.
